  • Located within the geographical boundaries of the KIZ

  • Operational for less than 8 years

  • Operating within one of the State-approved industry clusters. Further preference will be given to the following industry clusters approved by the Southside Bethlehem KIZ:

    • Information Technology

    • Financial Services

    • Advanced Materials

    • Nanotechnology

    • Opto/Micro Electronics

    • Life Sciences

    • Energy

  • Innovative

"I'm eligible for the KIZ...now what?"

The KIZ has a proven track record of investing in startup companies since 2004...to the tune of over $9 million dollars!  This amount was invested in startup companies through the following programs:

 

  • Technology Transfer Grants ($15,000 & $25,000)​

    • ​The KIZ awards Technology Transfer Grants to assist eligible companies in the commercialization of innovative technologies that possess promise for technology transfer into the marketplace. 

      • ​$15,000 for 1st Tech. Transfer Grant

      • $25,000 for additional Tech. Transfer Grants

  • Inventory Financing ($50,000 +/-)​​

    • The KIZ will consider financing for inventory-related expenses. 

      • Interest rates start at 6% and can be as low as 1% if products, inventory, or components are sourced in the Lehigh Valley.  

      • Term is 3 years.

  • Student Internship Grants ($2,500 & $3,750)

    • The KIZ awards Student Internship Grants up to $2,500 for undergraduate-level students and up to $3,750 for graduate-level students.

    • LVEDC has published a Lehigh Valley Internship Resources Guide that can be helpful.

  • NCC Fab Lab Access ($1,000)

    • ​The KIZ may allocate up to $1,000 in expenses accrued at the Northampton Community College Fab Lab in order to assist eligible applicants in the commercialization of innovative technologies that possess promise for technology transfer into the marketplace.

  • KIZ Tax Credit Program ($100,000)

    • ​The KIZ, through the Pennsylvania Dept. of Community & Economic Development, awards annual KIZ Tax Credits up to $100,000 to assist eligible companies.

    • The KIZ Tax Credit Program is based on increased revenue and can be used in conjunction with Federal R&D and Pennsylvania R&D Tax Credit Programs.
